History

When Dr. Adam Peck joined the Division of Student Affairs as assistant vice president in January 2021, he was quick to continue his established legacy of student-focused initiatives. Among the first of these efforts was a campaign to provide umbrellas for students caught in the rain without one. After some early success distributing umbrellas, there was a desire to grow the campaign, increase its reach, and provide this service to more students.

Tragically and unexpectedly, Adam passed away in the fall of 2022. Anyone who knew Adam, knew he had impacted countless family members, friends, and students over the years. And all agree, we lost him far too early. His enthusiasm, warmth, and kindness will forever be cherished and missed.

But Adam’s impact on this campus, and others, has endured. If you’re reading this and it’s raining outside and you’re in need of an umbrella, please take one of the umbrellas here. Use it for as long as you need it, and when you’re done, you can return it to one of the many umbrella stations across campus.

We are proud to continue Adam’s vision of a simple and important act of kindness for our students.
