Illinois State University Police Department

  • In August, 2012, the University Police updated their Computer Aided Dispatch System. The project has resulted in efficient call response, improved record keeping, and has aided in the statistical reporting of criminal incidents on campus.
  • Officers Robert Malone and David Erickson received the department’s Life Saving Medal for saving the life of an Illinois State University employee during a medical related traffic accident on July 27, 2012. Their valiant efforts, along with the assistance of a Normal Police Officer, helped extract the driver from the vehicle, and begin chest compressions until paramedics arrived.
  • Sergeant Charlie Summers participated in the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) activation for Hurricane Sandy. He served as a member of a Mobile Field Force Unit that responded to New Jersey from November 10 – 18, 2012 to assist the New Jersey police agencies in protection and recovery efforts.
  • Coffee with a Cop, Lunch with the Law, and Dinner with a Detective was a joint partnership between Campus Dining and the University Police with each event targeting different hours of the day at different dining locations on campus during January and February, 2013. The purpose of the Coffee with a Cop program is to afford opportunities for the police and the campus community to interact in a neutral, non-confrontational environment. The result is improved communication and trust between the community and the police. These events afford officers a non-legalistic perspective to their jobs, and a chance to see how their actions are perceived by the public. Additionally, it allowed the ISU Police Department to gain valuable feedback about our performance and the services we provide.
