Student Health Services is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). To achieve accreditation, Student Health Services meets nationally recognized standards for outpatient health care. Our achievement of these standards means that the Student Health Services staff is committed to providing quality healthcare to students. SHS has been accredited since 1987 and undergoes reaccreditation site visits every 2 years to remain accredited.
Based on feedback from our student satisfaction survey in Spring 2018, 99.57% of students said they would recommend using Student Health Services to either a friend or classmate.
The overall student satisfaction rate during FY18 was 100% with students either being “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with our level of care and services offered.
Student Health Services continues to collaborate and refer orthopedic injury or rehabilitation to the Sports and Medicine Rehabilitation Therapy (SMART) Clinic on campus.
Student Health Services continues to collaborate and refer students to Exercise is Medicine, a program offered in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation, to provide free fitness assessments. Exercise is Medicine and SHS work in partnership to raise awareness of the physical activity needed to sustain a healthy lifestyle. A goal of this collaboration is to make physical activity a standard in health care, the ultimate goal is to implement exercise interventions that will slow, stop or reverse chronic disease.
Student Health Services collaborates with the Mennonite College of Nursing faculty and students to help with annual flu shot clinics for faculty and staff.
Student Health Services works with International Studies and the INTO program to provide a smooth transition and assistance with immunizations.
Student Health Services works with the McLean County Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health to monitor for outbreaks that could affect the ISU campus.
Student Health Services is a designated alternate treatment site. SHS and ISU Emergency Management work together to develop an emergency preparedness plan.
Student Health Services was a key component in the Mass Distribution Drill that took place September 2018, along with the McLean County Health Department and ISU Emergency Management.
Our laboratory received a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) recertification in 2017.
Student Health Services staff participate in the active shooter training provided by ISU PD.
The SHS Registered Dietitian provides dietetic services to students diagnosed with disordered eating, weight management and other specialized nutrition needs.
Student Health Services continues to provide reduced priced over-the-counter medication for students as well as the opportunity for students to transfer prescriptions to our pharmacy for convenience.
Student Health Services acquired a new machine for the laboratory so that testing for GC and Chlamydia can be done on-site and allow for same day results to be given to the student.
Student Health Services offers convenient STI lab-only appointments for students, which means the student does not need to meet with a provider. The student makes an appointment to come in and drop off a specimen to lab. Student Health Services laboratory processes most STI results in-house. The in-house STI processing allows for quicker notification to students and can expedite treatment in most cases.
Student Health Services offers FREE flu shots to all ISU eligible students.
Student Insurance
Student Insurance works with International Studies and the INTO program to provide insurance and insurance information for students and visitors from other countries.
Student Insurance renewed our contract with Aetna Student Health to offer a Student Health Insurance plan, which is affordable and provides excellent coverage.
The Student Insurance office is the plan administrator for the Student Health Insurance plan, providing the customer services and processing of all the plan’s claims.
Student Insurance is the least expensive plan, providing the highest benefit package, of all the State school plans who are compliant with the Federal Affordable Care Act (ACA). The Student Insurance plan is consider a ‘Platinum Pan’, the highest rating, under the ACA.
Student Insurance is the plan administrator for the Athletic Department NCAA sports accident plan.
